Informatics Prerequisites
In order to be considered for admission, applicants who are current UW students must complete all four prerequisite courses. The courses must be completed by the end of the quarter before submitting your application to the Informatics program.
Students applying to transfer to the UW and apply to Informatics are not required to complete INFO 200 before applying. This course will be completed once you are an Informatics student. To ensure you are planning your transfer courses, use the for Washington state schools or our list of pre-approved transfer courses for schools outside of Washington.
Prospective students who have completed all listed prerequisites may focus on completing their general education requirements and preparing for an alternative major.
Effective autumn 2026: Beginning with applications for entry in autumn 2026 (application due April 5), recent transfer students will no longer have a one-quarter grace period for meeting the INFO 200 requirement.

Additional Information
- Prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the quarter before the application deadline. For winter quarter start, it means the summer before. For autumn quarter start, it means the winter quarter or fall semester before.
- Prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of 2.0 or higher, AP/IB scores (if awarded credit by the UW), or Cr (if a Cr/NC class).
- Prerequisite courses taken for an S grade will count toward prerequisites.
- Courses equivalent to INFO 200 are not available outside the UW, and transfer students, including UW Bothell or UW Tacoma, are not expected to have taken this course.
- If you have taken multiple classes that fulfill the same requirement, you will select which course you want considered in the application.
Notes for Transfer Applicants
Transfer students are not required to complete INFO 200 to apply. If admitted, this course will be taken in your first or second quarter of enrollment.
UW Bothell and UW Tacoma
Students taking coursework at UW Bothell or UW Tacoma should take the classes listed above.
Washington State Community or Technical College
Students taking coursework at a Washington State community or technical college that has a transfer agreement with the UW should refer to the to find courses that are equivalent to the prerequisite courses listed in the 鈥淯W Seattle Courses鈥 column below.
Schools Without a Transfer Agreement
